SNKC Aggressive Dog Policy
The purpose of this policy is to protect students, instructors and dogs, to establish guidelines and to clarify acceptable dog behavior.
SNKC strives to provide all class participants with a safe atmosphere so they may learn to the best of their abilities. Assistance and training will be provided to every dog/handler team.
Definitions of Aggressive Behavior Acts that are potentially harmful or dangerous to humans or dogs. Some examples might be but are not limited to, the following:
- Unprovoked growling or snapping at other dogs or humans
- Charging or running down another dog or human
- Attacking another dog or human
- Biting another dog or human
- Demonstrating unnecessary aggression toward the handler, other dogs or other people (It is understood that some dogs may have space requirements and due consideration shall be given to the dog’s needs.)
Instructors have the right and responsibility to issue verbal warnings to any handler whose dog is behaving in a threatening, aggressive or disruptive manner and guide the handler in addressing the problem.
Instructors have the right and responsibility to remove any dog and handler from class who pose a threat to the safety of others in the class.
Any time a dog has been removed from class, notice of such action must be made to all SNKC instructors via email within 24 hours. This step will assist fellow instructors if the dog is currently enrolled in another SNKC class. Upon instructor review, the dog may or may not be excused from any additional class as well. Once excused, no appeal process will be available to return the dog to that class at that time.
Each incident will be evaluated on a case by case basis by the instructor to determine if this behavior can be safely addressed within a group setting.
Proof of satisfactorily improved behavior must be demonstrated to an instructor before re-admittance will be allowed.
A refund will be provided if a dog is removed from class.
When an incident involves injury to dog(s) or human(s), it is the instructor’s responsibility to notify the SNKC Board Chairman within 24 hours. A copy of the Incident Report must be sent to the Board Chairman within 48 hours.
